Both children and adults with developmental disabilities can receive home care services.
Can a family member get paid to be the caregiver that provides the care?
Most family members can get paid to be the caregiver. However, parents and guardians cannot work as the caregiver. Please note that family caregivers are subject to the same rules as non-family caregivers.
Can a family friend get paid to be the caregiver that provides the care?
Yes. Family friends can get paid to be the caregiver. Please note that family friends are subject to the same rules as any other caregiver.
Who pays for these home care services?
These home care services are covered by Medicaid.
Are these home care services part of the OPWDD Waiver services?
No. These services can complement services provided by the OPWDD Waiver but are covered by Medicaid separately – not under the OPWDD Waiver.
